I love United States history, especially our military history. I also love my father. In an effort to honor my father and preserve part of the national history of the United States Navy, I have been building a collection of US military aircraft. The Skyraider is a pivotal piece in this collection.

This is its story...

I found the AD-4N Skyraider advertised on Mark Clark’s CourtesyAircraft.com and arranged a trip to St. Rambert D’Albon, France to inspect the aircraft. Accompanying me was my father, Ret. USN Captain C.F. Hendrickson, Jr., and Ret. USN LCDR Gus Ellison. Once in France the first three days were spent scouring the aircraft from wing tips to wheel wells. Much of that time and effort was spent pulling oil screens and inspecting the engine in preparation for her first ever trans-Atlantic flight. The remaining three days were spent reminiscing about naval aviation on the beautiful countryside of France. After the three days of backbreaking labor Gus, who spent years aboard aircraft carriers maintaining AD’s, declared this to be “one of the finest working examples of an AD I’ve ever seen!”.
Once we had returned stateside, and after much reflection, I called Mark Clark and informed him of my intentions to bring the Skyraider home.

Much more of this story to come!
